Meet our Tutors!

Meet Jack!

Hi, I am Jack Glagola (he/him) and I am a Philosophy major; I study Arabic as well. I study philosophy because my father also studied philosophy and he instilled in me an appreciation for it. I am also on the editorial staff of the Commonwealth Times and I hope to become a news reporter in the future. Fun fact: I was born in Arkansas.

Meet Penelope!

Hello! My name is Penelope Copetas (she/her) and I am a triple major in philosophy of law, political science, and criminal justice. I first dipped my toes into philosophy during my freshman year, and I was instantly swept away by its depth and wonder. Philosophy is a tool with applications across a wide range of fields! Please feel free to visit philosophy tutoring if you are considering the major, we'd love to talk to you about it!

As for my future career goals, I hope to become an attorney who makes a positive impact in the criminal justice system! I also aspire to obtain my PhD in legal philosophy sometime after law school!

I primarily tutor PHIL 222 - Logic, PHIL 320 - Philosophy of Law, PHIL 221 - Critical Thinking, and PHIL 201 - Introduction to Ethics, but I can help with almost any course!

A fun fact about me is that I am a major cat enthusiast! I volunteer at Richmond Animal Care & Control, where I spend time socializing the cats to help them build confidence and find loving homes. I also love to do archery in my spare time!

Meet Rose!

Hello! My name is Rose Detore (she/her). I am dual majoring in Philosophy (Science) and Biomedical Engineering (Cellular, Tissue, and Regenerative) on a Pre-Medical track. I decided to major in philosophy mainly due to a personal interest in the intersection of philosophy and medicine, and I felt quickly adopted into VCU’s welcoming Philosophy Department. I hope to go to medical school for neurosurgery and bring more attention to what philosophy can contribute to medicine.

I can primarily tutor for PHIL 201 – Intro to Ethics, PHIL 222 – Logic, PHIL 391 – Philosophy of Medicine, PHIL 103 – Ancient Greek and Medieval Western Philosophy, and PHIL 104 – Modern Western Philosophy.

A fun fact about me is that I was originally a Music Performance major (cello).

Meet Sky!

Hi, my name is Sky Evans (he/him) and I am a philosophy major with a concentration in philosophy and science. I am also a double minor in chemistry and pre-med. I took my first philosophy course in my freshman year and immediately knew that it is where I belong. The skills you learn while doing philosophy are applicable to so many different parts of life and various academic fields. I simply fell in love with the department (the professors are all so wonderful) and the practice of philosophy (so much so that I started the Philosophy of Medicine Club).

In terms of my career goals, I hope to get a masters in public health, concentrating in health policy. I would like to get a law degree and, eventually, a PhD in the history and philosophy of science. I want to either work in public health policy development or become a professor someday.

Primarily, I am a tutor for ethics (PHIL 201- Intro To Ethics, PHIL 327 - Normative Ethics, and PHIL 490 - Population Ethics), anything related to philosophy of science or medicine, and logic (PHIL 222). However, I can help with almost any philosophy course in one way or another.

A fun fact about me is that I am a diehard fan of Steely Dan and you can sometimes find me playing the piano on the second floor of the commons.
