Topic: Identity and Existence

Course Description: "Everything is identical to itself and nothing else," "Two things can never be identical since two can never be one" -- these apparent truisms suggest identity is a simple and uncontroversial relation. In reality, however, philosophy is full of identity puzzles. Why? In this seminar, we investigate philosophical issues surrounding identity and existence. We will not discuss issues involving group identity and other social issues.
