Professor and Chair Anthony Ellis retires

Anthony Ellis retired on June 30, 2020. Professor Ellis joined the VCU Philosophy Department in 1990 and has served as department chair since 1999. Best wishes to Professor Ellis in his retirement!

Anthony Ellis retired on June 30, 2020. Professor Ellis joined the VCU Philosophy Department in 1990 and has served as department chair since 1999. Professor Ellis has served for many years as the editor of the journal Analysis Reviews (previously Philosophical Books). His research focused on the philosophy of law, and he is a specialist in international and constitutional law. His work took him to ten different countries to give talks. His publications include the book The Philosophy of Punishment. At VCU, he spearheaded the philosophy-major concentration in the philosophy of law. He volunteered as a judge for the local high school Ethics Bowl and helped recruit judges. Best wishes to Professor Ellis in his retirement!
