Kim Soland's research is in the philosophy and science of perception, especially auditory perception and pain. Right now she is interested in the impact of attention on perceptual experience.
She argues in recent work that attention supplies several dimensions of experiences that are typically held to be representations of distal features. Loudness, for example, is a reflect of the salience of an auditory representation, not a representation of sound intensity
